Local Community Partnerships
Local Community Partnerships (LCPs) are a community resource that partner with various groups within the community, to play a significant and valuable role in responding to emerging skills needs and gaps and enhance transition of young people from school to further education, training or employment.
Where appropriate, LCPs can develop and implement strategies and/or activities that provide opportunities for young people to increase their awareness of the changing skill needs of industry, especially in emerging industries.
The groups that we work with include industry and employer groups, schools, professional career advisers, community organisations, parents, young people, youth service providers and other government and community organisations.
LCPs implement three career and transition programmes for the benefit of schools within the West Coast region and eligible young people (aged 13-19). This includes other educational organisations and of course schools across government, Catholic and other non-government schooling sectors.
LCPs facilitate links between industry and students, teachers and the wider community, to enhance the quality of career development in our schools. Businesses can take part to assist schools and students by encouraging staff to share industry and career knowledge and expertise, and by promoting careers in their industry or by providing hands on experience in their particular industry.
Businesses also provide specific experiences for equity groups, such as students with a disability, Indigenous youth or students who may be at risk of not completing school. Many businesses provide mentors for particular school projects or programmes, and promote careers in their industry by encouraging site visits or tours.
