Building partnerships that support improved education and transition outcomes for all young people
BJL Connecting Communities is managing the Schools, Business, Community Partnership Brokers Program for the West Coast Region - an initiative of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR)
The establishment of the School, Business, Community Partnership Brokers Program is based on the principle that learning and development of young people is the collective responsibility of governments, education and training providers, business and industry as well as parents and families, and the broader community.
BJL Partnership Brokers foster a strategic, whole of community approach that supports young people's learning and development. This will entail development and facilitation of sustainable partnerships between key stakeholders (PDF) to effect change.
The Partnership Approach
A partnership is a corss sector collaboration in which organisations work together in a transparent, equitable and mutually beneficialo way. Organisations share a common goal and vision and agree to commit resources and share the risks as well as the benefits accociated with the partnership.
A partnership is different to a working relationship because it is formed between people who want the same things, have worked together to define what those things are and have contributed to the goal setting, planning and implementation of agreed activities. Partners have responsibilities as well as share in the outcomes.
BJL’s aim is to facilitate sustainable partnerships that operate on integrity and transparency, partnerships that share the benefits as well as the risks; partnerships that can sustain themselves because they allow for flexibility and change because they have a shared objective that continually encourages them to collaborate.
The primary objective of these strategic partnerships between and among key stakeholders to improve education and transition outcomes and support young people to remain engaged, or re-engage, in education or training. To realise their full social and economic potential, promoting equity and excellence in education and in the hope that all young Australians become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to participate effectively in society and employment in a globalised economy.
